Bitterness occurs when we feel someone has taken something from us that we are powerless to get back. It can be a result of your frustration from a failed relationship, failed to achieved personal goals, problems from work and sometimes even from our family. We hold on to the hurt in an attempt to remind ourselves and others of the injustice we’ve experienced in the hopes that someone will save us and restore what we’ve lost. Unfortunately, bitterness only makes our sense of the injustice grow. It does nothing to heal the wound caused by the injustice. In fact, it causes the wound to become infected with anger.

I started noticing that a lot of people like to complain about little things, but they felt ashamed to do it, because they felt like they were being petty. No one wants to be bitter. It sneaks up on us. Bitterness is unforgiveness fermented. The more we hold onto past hurts the more we become drunk on our pain and the experience can rob us of the joy we can find in anything. We’re only humans and we need other people to listen to our suffering just to ease the pain. If you need to talk it out, Hugot Café is the perfect place for you which is located at B83 Regalado Avenue North Fairview, Quezon City (just in-front of STI).

Hugot Café is the fist and only bitterness-themed restaurant in the Philippines. Hugot Lines became popular because of the film “That Thing Called Tadhana” featuring Angelica Panganiban and JM De Guzman. It was then followed this year by the films “Paglipay”, “That Thing Called Tanga Na” and “Camp Sawi”. Celebrating bitterness may sound odd but it’s actually good that people are trying to vent out their feelings and eventually will lead to acceptance and moving on.

Consistency is a must to themed restaurants like Hugot Café. Hugot lines adorned the wall of this cozy and welcoming restaurant. Customers can post their Hugot Lines on the Hugot Wall to share their Hugot Moments.

Inverted Eiffel Tower

They inverted the famous Eiffel Tower as a representation of heartbreak from a failed relationship. Bitterness at its finest! 🙂

Now let’s take a look at their menu. Their food were named after relationship status and names that describe how you are being treated by someone that you like but doesn’t compensate the love that you desire.

Hugot Café offers milkshakes in just one size. And while it may be tough to bypass some of their exciting flavors, the vanilla ice cream placed on top of their milkshake is no slouch. This was honest-to-God, hand-packed ice cream scooped out to order and combined with real milk. And it tasted every bit of it. Thick and rich, there was no artificiality to this shake whatsoever. The shake was on the swishy side; I could suck it through my straw immediately and with ease.

Hugot Café will not escalate your bitterness because they will treat you like someone is there to listen to you with their open-mic session. Burst out all the pain that you’re hiding and no one will judge you. They will laugh and cry with you instead. Just remember that time heals all the pain.

Here are some things you can do to begin to overcome bitterness:
1. Forgive
2. Make a plan
3. Stop Dwelling and Retelling
4. Seek Grace
5. Seek Professional Help

If the bitterness won’t let go even after you’ve tried all of the above, it’s time to seek professional help. Working with a professional can help you see possibilities that your pain has blinded you to and give you new tools to heal the wounds that are holding you back. If you have a faithful professional in your area that you have worked with before, it may be time to reconnect. Healing is possible with the right resources.

Great food with excellent service for a very reasonable price. We will definitely be back again soon.
